Successful launch of Sternula-1, world’s first commercial VDES satellite

As a part of the MARIOT project, with Aalborg’s Sternula in the lead, Aalborg University, GateHouse SatCom, Satlab, DMI, Space Inventor and Innovation Fund Denmark have launched Denmark’s first commercial satellite into space when the SpaceX rocket Transporter 6 lifted off from Florida on 3rd of January.

The purpose of MARIOT project is to demonstrate VDES-based satellite, thus the launch of Sternula-1 is a milestone for the maritime industry, as the satellite is the starting point for the world’s largest satellite network targeted at the maritime industry.

World’s first VDES satellite operators win ESA contract to develop satellite network roaming for AIS 2.0

Danish and Norwegian satellite operators, Sternula and Space Norway, who are the world’s first to launch and operate VDES satellites, will work together on satellite network roaming, search-and-rescue, and new maritime IoT services in a new ESA-funded research project to realize AIS 2.0.

Japan joins global VDES community

Japan has a plan to develop a VDES satellite constellation under its anchor tenancy policy. Seven companies and Ocean Policy Research Institute (OPRI) launch the Satellite VDES Consortium.

Cooperation between VDES Alliance and Japanese consortium is expected in the future.
